Weekend Wrap Up

We had a busy weekend around here! All last week the students in our county had CRCT testing. It is a set of tests that have to be passed to pass 3rd, 5th and 8th grades. It is a long stressful week for students and teachers. Our school celebrated the test being over on Friday Night. We did a "Movie on the Lawn" we also had a concession stand. The kids loved it. It was alot of work and made for a long day. I think we left there at around 10:30 pm. That is very late for me! I had "volunteered" Andy to work too! He had to mark off the lawn with stakes and ties. He got sunburned on his neck. I am sure that he was thanking me while sweat was rolling in his eyes!

Saturday, Kelsey (and her laundry) came home for the day. We had terrible storms but we all enjoyed a nice lunch out and a little shopping.

Sunday, we had church, then we went out. We are looking for some new living room furniture. I dont know how we ended up at Joann's but we did!! Maybe because Toys R Us is next door to it and Cade had been wanting to go there and "look around" The picture above is of the fabric I bought. (but didnt need)
It was a nice weekend but now, I need to clean up around here and buy some groceries!!
Hope everyone had a Great weekend!

another pillowcase

I just finished this pillowcase. It is hand embroidered and pre-stamped. I did follow the color guide for this one because I loved the cover picture. I have started on the matching one. My boys did'nt seem to appreciate this ;) so I think that I will put these up for awhile....I have a sweet Sister-in-Law who after trying for 10 years, is pregnant!!! They find out soon the sex of the baby. If it is a girl..I think a set of hand embroidered pillowcases will be a sweet gift!

you can click on the picture to see it close up...just don't look too close!!

Me and Trisha

I thought that I would show ya'll the little gift my sweet husband got for me while I was recovering from my surgery. He knows that I am a huge Trisha Yearwood fan. She is a Georgia girl. I like her music. I think that she is beautiful and let's face it, she is not sick skinny!! She has an exercise regime but she loves to cook and enjoys good old southern food! I have always loved hearing about her relationship with her parents and sister. I bought her first cookbook "Georgia Cooking in an Oklahoma Kitchen" a couple of years ago. I love it..lots of good recipes, famliy stories and pictures! I use her recipes for cabbage and squash. When I found out that she had a new cookbook coming out, I knew that I would want to buy it. It came out the day after I got home from the hospital and Andy went and got it to surprise me. So sweet! The new book is "Home Cooking with Trisha Yearwood" Like the first book it contains recipes from her Mom and Sister and this one has other recipes from family and friends. (and Garth Brooks) I havent cooked anything from it but I will! It is as lovely as the first book!

I will be at the library this week. Sherry has had to miss the past few weeks. She has had complications from the radiation. She says she is feeling better and hopes to work tomorrow! It will be good to see her sweet smiling face!

I hope that everyone has a wonderful week!

Friday Night Sew In or (I'm so lazy)

I thought about blowing off FNSI, I was at the library all week, and I was sooo tired! I guess I'm still recovering from my surgery (atleast that is what I kept whinning to my husband) My husband had already planned on taking the boys out so I had the house to myself. I thought about just laying on the couch and watching Deadliest Catch on tv. Then, I thought about all the times during the week when I was at the school and was wishing I was home sewing. I went into my sewing room and hoped I would be inspired! I have a quilt top ready to be basted but I just couldnt make myself do that! Not ready to be crawling on my hands and knees yet!

I dug around in some of my old fabric and found some blocks that I had from a block swap (a long time ago) I was a new, self-taught quilter, I found an online chat group that was all about quilting. I loved that group, I learned so much! They would host fabric and block swaps. I was always too intimidated to join. After watching for a couple of years I decide to join a swap. The block was from an online site (they had permission) they set up rules for color, fabric style and quality of blocks. Let me tell you, I drove myself (and family) crazy about those blocks!! I worked so hard to make them perfect! The rules were, if the blocks were not good quality, measured correctly, they would be sent back!! I was not going to let that happen!! I even had a nightmare that my blocks were sent back to me and I was kicked out of the group! I did my blocks over and over again, I made Andy measure them to make sure they were perfect!!!! So, what do you think happened?? Some (most) of the blocks I received were off by 1/4 to over 1/2 an inch!!! I was stunned!! I reread the instructions to make sure I had my sizes right....I did...I was floored! By then, I hated the blocks so I stuck them in a baggie and forgot about them!! and, I never joined another block swap!! Now, I know that a 1/4 seam allowance can be hard to get and if all the blocks had been off by the same amount they would have been fine. But, they were all different sizes. Not an uncommon thing when so many different people are making the blocks!

I got the blocks out last night, measured them again and started taking them apart. Before, I would have felt guilty taking someone else's work apart but now I don't. I still have 3 more blocks to put back together. I think this will make a cute little kids quilt. I think I will put flannel on the back and I might tie this quilt. I have always wanted to tie a quilt. I really love all the 30's fabrics in this quilt. This quilt makes me remember how much I loved quilting when I first started. I fell in love with 30's fabrics and quilts. I don't use them as much in my quilts anymore but they will always have a special place in my heart!

Have a great weekend!

Checking In!

I can't believe that I havent posted in so long!! I am back to normal after my surgery! Thank you so much for all the well wishes and prayers! I am so glad that is over with! I had a few days of what I thought was gas pains and went I went to bed Monday night they started up again. I was up all night long in terrible pain! I just knew it was gas and that it would go away. It didnt! It jsut got worse...not unlike contractions!! Finally, when it got morning and I could barely breathe or walk, I thought it might be a good idea to wake my husband....THE PARAMEDIC!!! Hello!! What was I thinking??? After the surgery, I had a terrible reaction to all the pain meds that I was given in the ER. I had to stay an extra day in the hospital because of that!
Before I got sick, I put this quilt together. It is so pretty (i think) I was planning on hand basting it the day I went to the ER...still havent got that done..maybe this week! I am also back at the library.

I was able to go to Easter services at church. I didnt teach my Sunday School class though. After church, we went to my MIL's for lunch and an egg hunt. It was nice to be around everyone! Here is my sweet girl (in the middle) and my two of my sweet nieces. They are both very tall! and Kelsey is very short!

Cade had Spring Break last week. Andy took him and a friend to the Atlanta Zoo. We had beautiful weather all week but our Georgia pollen is out of control!!

I have been going for some walks, enjoying this little break and visiting with my sister! Her and the girls came up from Alabama for a few days! It was great to see them!

Thanks again for reading my blog and I will post again very soon!

Have a great day!
