Hello Middle School

My baby started Middle School today:( He was excitied and very nervous. He got up and got ready super fast which meant that we had alot of nervous time to kill. He talked about silly stuff and got in some last minute hugs with Ruby.

He is such a fun kid! I really do miss him when he is not around. I am trying to stay positive about Middle School but it's my least favorite school experience..for me and my kids.

I have started my laundry and gone for a stress relief walk:) Now, for a shower and some stress relief sewing:)

Have a great Monday..I am sure that I will be just fine and so will Cade...I just wish that his voice hadnt sounded so shaky when he said "bye"

I'm Back!!

WOW!! It has been a long time since I blogged!! I have sure missed you all! I hope to catch up on everyone's blogs very soon!

My problem???? The beginning of May, Kelsey was on the computer and Ruby (the cat) jumped up on the tower (as she often does) and the computer just went off!! The monitor was fine, we just couldnt get the computer to come on! It went into the shop, only to be told that it was fine!??? Oh well, guess Ruby needs to lose a little weight!

I did notice that I get a lot more done without a computer but I sure missed emails and getting my quilt "fix" every morning! We finished the last book fair of the year. Some of the girls from the school got together and we had a little "good-bye" lunch for me. I am going to miss seeing everybody next year. I'm not really looking forward to having a middle-schooler either!

Today, we should be at Cade's 5th grade graduation. We arent because him and Joey ar being tested for Mono!!
What a way to start the summer!!

Bah!

Not much going on around here! I have been very busy at the library..and am starting to feel panicked about not being at home. Not having time to sew, not having time to shop, not having time to myself...blah blah blah! Most of you know that I am filling in for my son's schools librarian, who has cancer. I feel so mean and selfish for gripping about helping someone out!! I am glad that I can do it! I am honored that God has chosen to use me this way. and I really do love being with the students but I guess I am just grouchy!! Anyway, at school Friday, I was given several little gifts of appreciation!! and invited to the staff only luncheon! Now, I did not expect anything and they sure dont owe me anything! I was so touched though to be appreciated!

Some fool decided that our school system should go to school Monday and Tuesday of this week! Those kids were nuts on friday, they are going to be really wound up come Tuesday. We will have Polar Express Day. They all come in their pj's, have a class party and watch the movie The Polar Express. I will be in the library taking down all our Christmas themed stuff! Ready for the break.

Kelsey came home Saturday. She had the flu and final exams last week. I sure hope she doesnt bring the flu home to us.

Cade graduated to a new belt in Karate. He is a first degree Brown belt. In less than a year he will be a black belt! Here is a picture of him when the instructor set his push-ups and sit-ups to 100!

Libby's No Picture Blog!

I was hoping for a lazy Saturday at home!! I just don't feel like I have had a day home to myself in a long time! Andy was off from work today and of course Cade was home from school. They had talked about going out just the 2 of them so I thought "YAHOO!" That didnt happen!

They decided to go to a mall about 30 min. from home. Well, there is nothing at the mall that I want to shop for and I did not want to go at all but Andy said "We can drop you off at Joanns" so I decided to go. I had a coupon that was running out. I had never been to this Joann's. The Joann's that I go to is in an upscale part of town (not near my house at all) Lot's of nice shops around it. It is a very nice big Joann's. They have lots of modern fabric and a modern price too! The Joanns that I went to today was not new and the only store near it was Long John Silvers. They had SO much fabric!! Not much modern stuff but so many blenders and florals! I would have loved to look around for some fabric for my stash but it was packed!!!! I'm talking the line for the cutting table had about 12 people waiting in line! I ended up getting a "civil war" fat quarter set and a Quiltmaker magazine.

At the mall, to continue my Civil War theme, I bought this book. The Widow of the South by Robert Hicks.

I have no idea if it is good or not but I will let you know. Being a good southern girl, I know Gone With The Wind by heart and Cade is named after one of the characters from the novel.

I think I will go lay down and try and read some now. I have a headache that is freaking me out because Friday morning when I was working in the library (by myself and not getting paid) one of the really young kids came in and started crying, he was holding his little finger so I thought he had hurt himself so I got on my knees (like a good former preschool teacher) and was comforting him. He was still crying and kinda hugged me then he PUKED all over my chest and back!!!! the other students were grossed out and running wild!! To top of this awesomeness, while I was getting him to the trashcan I could smell that it was coming from both ends!!! Finally, one girl ran to the office and got help. I got a new school tshirt and cleaned up!! Then I helped lysol the Media Center!! I stayed the rest of the day and I hope the principal remembers that the next time Cade is bad!!! Turns out there is a bad stomach virus going around (DUH) I'm hoping my headache is just a headache!! But I am paraniod now!!

Happy Halloween!

Good Times

I thought that I would share a few good things that I am happy about right now.

1. Our Fall Book Fair is over!! We are all worn out! Our Media Specialist, Sherry (who is going through chemo and radiation for colon cancer) is doing great!! Her tumor was removed during the summer. She worked everyday of the Book Fair. She was super happy when we did a tentative count of the money..we sold about 17,000 dollars in books!! The school library will get a nice percentage of that for new books and media supplies!

2. I'm excitied that I have signed up for a "stay at home" quilt retreat. Susan at Blackberry Creek is hosting. It starts Oct. 12 thru the 14. I have a bit of a break from the library so I hope to spend some time sewing. You should check out her sweet blog and sign up!

3. Kristie is back!!! Kristie's blog Cowgirl Quilter, was one of the first blogs that I started reading. I fell in love with her beautiful scrappy quilts, her mountain life and her sweet attitude! She also helped me get my blog started. I wanted to start a blog to be able to show her my quilts! Kristie had a nasty fall awhile back (ouch!!) but she has started her blogging again! I am SO happy that she is on the mend!

This weekend I plan on putting my house back in order (kinda) so that I will be ready to lock myself in my sewing room this week! Have you seen big B's newest pattern set?? It's full of Snowmen and snow "stuff" I bought it and LOVE it!! I really want to make some plans for a little Snowman stitchery!
Have a great weekend!!

Back to School

Thought that I would share the little label that I made for my Sister-in-laws quilt. This was my first embroidered label. I was happy with the way it turned out. This is the little Sunbonnet Sue quilt that my Mother-in-Law and I made. Nanny hand embroidered the blocks and I put the quilt together and quilted it. We had the baby shower Friday night. it was beautiful and special. We are all so excitied for this baby!

Cade started school this morning and I guess I have the "empty house blues" It will probably get worse because Kelsey moves back to college on Friday. I know you hear it all the time but kids really do grow up too fast!

I am hoping to get some much needed cleaning done and maybe a little sewing time! Today will be the first time ever that Cade has ridden the school bus. He is trying it out this afternoon!! Maybe that is why I'm nervous and flitting around getting nothing done!

Have a great day!

Friday Night Sew In

Woo Hoo! The next Friday Night Sew In is set for March 19! I have marked it on the calendar and I know that Andy is at the Fire Dept. that night so the boys can go get supper for themselves!! I will sure look forward to a night of getting all comfy, having something yummy to snack on and sewing whatever I want! If you want to join just sign up on Heidi's blog (Handmade by Heidi) it is really nice to see what others are working on and she gives away a prize on the Sunday after the Sew In!

I have written before that I am a volunteer at my son's school. It is a brand new school that just opened this school year. It is pretty big, with alot of students. I have met alot of nice people "working" there. Somehow, I got asked by the Media Specialist to volunteer in the Media Center (or library, as it used to be called) Now, getting to "work" in the library is a much sought after position!! Lot's of the Mom's want that spot!! You arent stuck cutting out things or making copies. You get to meet all the students and most of the teachers come in and out! The kids are usually excitied to be in the library (out of class) so they are glad to see you! Believe me, when Ms. Sherry asked me if I wanted to "work" in the library I jumped at the chance for all of those reasons and mostly because the Media Specialist, Ms. Sherry, is so, so nice!! She is only a year older than me (43) she is just so cute and always so fun with the students and teachers! One of those type of people that everyone loves to be around!

She sent me an email on tuesday and asked me to meet her for breakfast. She asked the other "worker" Sam, to meet us too. I knew that it was going to be bad news and it was, she has rectum cancer. She found out last Wednesday on Winter Break. She is still in shock and still having test sone to found out all the details. I was blown away! I can not imagine how she is feeling! She told us that she was scared but was going to be positive about this. She has a 15 year old daughter! She said that she feels good and was sleeping well at night. Her church was praying for her and that gave her a feeling of peace. She is very worried that with her away for her tests, that the library will be closed and she does not want that to happen. In this economy, with state and local cut-backs, our county cut back on the aides that work in the schools. There is no library assistant, if the permanent sub. is needed somewhere else when Sherry isnt there, they have to close the library for the day. She has asked me and the other Mom, Sam, to go in and open it, when we can, even if its only for a couple of hours, a couple of days. Of coarse, we said that we would be happy to do that for her. She was so relieved, but it seems like such a little thing! I would love to do more for her, so I am asking that any of you who believe in prayer, to pray for her, her family and for me and Sam, and our families as we try to do what we can for her!! I would appreciate so much! I am blown away by this, all I can do is pray and ask for more prayers!

Didnt mean to have such a sad post. I will end by showing this picture of Ruby, helping me quilt my daughter's graduation quilt last May! She took it to college with her, nexy time that she brings it home to be washed, I will get a picture of it!

Have a Great Day!

Baby Quilt...again

This is the baby quilt that I am making for a lady at church to give to her friend. The lady said to make it purple and girly. This is a pattern that I have made before. It is from Alex Anderson's Baby Quilts book. It is so so easy to make! I wanted to show my fabric choice. Andy thought that it looks too "old" but I think that when I'm done it will be ok. I have a purple gingham for the back and I will bind it in the yellow. When I finish quilting the quilt, I will cut the curved border which really makes the quilt special!

Here is the same pattern. I made this for the quilt shop to show off Moda's new on-the-roll bias binding. The fabric is Moda Shangri La.

Cade said that he would pose and act like he was using the quilt! This poor quilt hung at the shop for a long time then I brought it home and hung it on the ladder in my living room. It has never been used or loved like a quilt should be used!!

He is really getting into it isn't he??!! This little quilt is 38x42. It is hand quilted in a 1 inch crosshatch.

I hope that everyone is having a good week! Thursday is my last "free" day before the book fair starts up. I may not post much next week. I will be at Cade's school everyday. I'm not used to being away from home that much!
I am hoping that my sweet girl will come home this weekend! Since we are due more cold rain she will warm our house up for sure!!!
Thanks for reading!

Snow Day!

Woo Hoo! Cade has the day off! Our area got a little snow and wintery mix last night! It would not have been a big deal except the tempature dropped down to around 14 so everything froze! We arent going over 32 today so they cancelled school. We southerns don't drive well in ice! Plus, we like to take advantage of any little snow fall!

Today we are staying warm with hot chocolate and cinnamon toast! I took these pictures this morning of our woods with the light dusting of "stuff" These are the woods behind my house and in front of the house. Not much of a snowfall but still pretty! Unfortunately, the news has been full of reports of accidents as people try to drive on the ice!

Enjoy your weekend and stay warm!

Not a good week to start a blog!

ok so this isnt a good week for me to start blogging! I am working everyday at my 9 yo old son's school Book Fair. It is alot of fun being around the kids and the books but by the time I get home, do some housework, supper and homework...I'm ready to go to bed!! Hopefully this weekend I will have some time to figure out this blog thing!

I am in between sewing projects. I just finished quilting a king sized quilt for a friend. I don't know what I want to start yet! I have been working on some 9 patch blocks for AmandaJeans quilt along (crazymom quilts) I will try to post some pics of it this weekend!

And..thank you so much Kristie for commenting and helping me out! If I could figure out how to link to your blog I would!!
